A throwaway line in this week’s paid newsletter…
“(Note: I switched over from Libsyn to Anchor in April 2022 so the stats don’t transfer over.)”
The sentence generated the same question from a few different people:
Why did I switch from Libsyn to Anchor?
So I figured I’d cover it here:
(For the uninitiated, Libsyn and Anchor are two different hosting platforms for podcasts. In simple terms, they allow you to upload once and publish to every platform — Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Pocket Casts, etc.)
I started using Libsyn two years ago when I started my podcast. My thinking: If it was good enough for Tim Ferriss, it was good enough for me.
But then I saw Anchor was the only hosting service that allowed video podcasts on Spotify. And if video podcasts were going to take off on Spotify, then it would help to be on the wave.
I remember the first month I saw this, I did nothing about it — even though I knew I should have. I didn’t have a good reason not to switch to Anchor. It just seemed like a lot of effort.
But then I realized something. There would be a lot of other people who had the same exact thought: “Oh, it must be too complicated/hard. I’ll do it later.” And then never get around to it.
And that a-ha moment was…
The resistance was actually the opportunity.
Because most people would think the same thing and do nothing about it.
And it looks like it’s paying off. I just got this email yesterday from Anchor:
Hope this email inspires you to do something you’ve been putting off because, in your head, it seems challenging or complex.
To your success,
Danny
